For the second time in just a few days, we read from two different moments in the Acts of the Apostles (2:42-47; 4:32-37) how members of the early Christian Church offered their personal possessions to meet the needs of others.
Charity is at the heart and core of the mission of the Church, right along side Word and Sacrament.
A true spirituality of stewardship recognizes that everything I ‘possess’ is a gift from God, and I am a steward of these many gifts on behalf of others. May the Easter mystery help us recognize the generosity of God in our life, the needs of those around us, and the charity to share.
Jesus teaches us that we are to live in this world with a freedom from the things of this world, with our hearts set on the Kingdom of God. We are to manifest in our lives the love with which God has loved us through Jesus; the same love which Jesus offered himself for our salvation.
