Mary’s Visitation to Elizabeth by Jeronimo Ezquerra

Thought for Today:

The Church continues today reading the Gospel of Luke and the events leading up to the birth of Jesus Christ. Yesterday we read the Annunciation account. Mary conceived the Son of God by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Today we read the account of Mary’s visit to Elizabeth. This is a great teaching for us; believers who received Christ and the Holy Spirit in Baptism, and regularly receive Christ in the Eucharist. Filled with the Holy Spirit and her own newly conceived Child, Mary hastened to visit Elizabeth, who was barren in her old age is now six months pregnant.

Think of the many times we have received Christ through the sacraments of the Church! Let us make Mary’s response our own. This is precisely the instruction at the end of every Mass: “Go, glorify the Lord with your life!”

Let us hasten in charity to carry Christ to the world.

Peace!
