Many Of My Many Blessings

As this anniversary day sees the sun head for the horizon and the shadows fall long around the Cathedral and Chancery, I wish to express the incredible privilege that is mine to work with such a wonderful group of people.  Throughout the day I have called to mind the many people and blessings God has graced me with throughout my life.  One group that must get some public recognition in my staff. These are some of the most dedicated servants of the Church I know, and I get to share ministry with them.  They work […]

Mission Tour Complete; St. Joseph in Shoshoni

With a noon celebration at St. Joseph in Shoshoni today, the tour of parishes and missions in the Diocese of Cheyenne is complete – only to begin again! I give thanks to God this day for calling me to the priesthood, and five years ago, to the episcopacy.  My time in Wyoming has introduced me to many new people, and a deep faith.  My time as a bishop has served to temper my own faith, and taught me how to rely much more upon the faithfulness and power of God, and much less upon my […]

Merle Haggard And Rules For Discernment

I wish to begin today’s entry with a salute to my classmates (1992) from the North American College.  Twenty one years ago today, we entered St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome for our deacon ordinations.  There, laying prostrate on the floor in the chapel of the Chair of St. Peter we gave our lives to the Lord for the service of His Church and people.  What a blessed walk of life and faith these twenty one years have been!  Please, God, may many more young men follow us as such ‘gentle, but ardent servants of the […]

I just returned from celebrating the 6:45am Mass at our Cathedral.  Today marks the 2nd anniversary of the announcement naming me the Bishop of Cheyenne.  I offered the Mass this morning in thanksgiving for this local Church, the wonderful people of Wyoming. The words from Sunday’s second reading from St. Paul to the Thessalonians comes to mind We give thanks to God always for all of you, remembering you in our prayers, unceasingly calling to mind your work of faith and labor of love… I am also mindful of the memorial we celebrate today of […]

One Year

What a difference a year makes!  I write on the eve of my anniversary, after celebrating a beautiful Mass on the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception.  My heart is filled with gratitude for the many graces received in this first year as bishop.   I am particularly grateful for the wonderful people of Wyoming who have been so gracious and encouraging.  Your warmth and receptivity, your prayers and hospitality have helped me tremendously through this first year.  Keep praying that I be the Bishop for you that God is calling me to be.  I am […]
