Abraham meets Melchizedek, by Rubens

Entrance Antiphon For Today’s Mass:

Christ is the mediator of a New Covenant, so that by means of his death, those who are called may receive the promise of an eternal inheritance.

Today’s readings speak of covenant.

  • God with Abraham –
    • Liturgy of Hours today speaks of Abraham’s encounter with Melchizedek, who has an eternal priesthood – who foreshadows the priesthood of Jesus as the Son of God
  • Psalm 105: God remembers his covenant forever
  • Jesus: “Whoever keeps my word will never see death”

Each of us is created by God, drawn forth from the womb of God’s life and love. Thus, God calls us to live in communion (covenant) with him throughout all of this life.

In the person of Jesus, God restores what was lost through sin – namely – our communion with God, one another, all of creation.

Thus, Jesus came to ‘re-create’ all of God’s creation. Jesus came to establish a new and eternal covenant through his death and resurrection.
