I learned earlier this afternoon of the disappointing ruling in Federal Court today regarding the Diocese’s request for a temporary injunction against the HHS Mandate. The following statement has been released to the press. I ask for your continued prayers as this case makes its way through the appeal process.

In a decision that conflicts with the well-reasoned rulings of many other federal courts around the country, on Wednesday, the U.S. District Court for the District of Wyoming denied plaintiffs’ request for preliminary injunctive relief in the lawsuit filed by the Diocese of Cheyenne and other Catholic entities. The Diocese and its co-plaintiffs are disappointed by the court’s failure to uphold the Church’s freedom to maintain a health care plan consistent with its religious beliefs. Since the challenged regulations take effect on July 1, 2014, and would force the plaintiffs to violate their deeply held Catholic beliefs or face crippling fines and penalties for noncompliance, we will appeal this decision and seek relief from the appellate court. We believe the district court erred in its reasoning and application of the law and look forward to advancing a successful appeal.
