It is alarming and beyond disturbing to see the recent potential escalation of nuclear rhetoric and threats.

Ive seen the devastation of atomic bombs first hand and it’s incomprehensible to think about the thousands of nuclear weapons that already exist in our world which are armed and ready to launch. These nuclear weapons pose a serious threat of destroying the entire planet and the mere existence of such weapons is offensive to the human race and all of creation.

Our Catholic Faith urges us to advocate for peace. Many people questioned why I went to Japan two years ago and my answer is simple: peace.

Here is a link to my recent article about the importance of peace building and what it requires.

Let us continue to encourage our leaders to serious diplomacy to honor existing treaties to eliminate nuclear weapons and ban testing. Let us pray for a world leadership that can build relationships of trust, strive for reconciliation, and build a world founded on principles of justice and peace which is what every human heart longs for.

“Let us then pursue what leads to peace and to building up one another.” (Romans 14:19)
