Peace Requires Diplomacy, Not More Testing

It is alarming and beyond disturbing to see the recent potential escalation of nuclear rhetoric and threats. Ive seen the devastation of atomic bombs first hand and it’s incomprehensible to think about the thousands of nuclear weapons that already exist in our world which are armed and ready to launch. Peace: Cultivating Respect For One Human Family, One Universal Society

Our Pilgrimage of Peace delegation arrived in Tokyo Tuesday afternoon. Storms had flights literally at a standstill as we approached, requiring us to make lazy loops out over the Pacific, and again the standstill even after we landed. We finally checked in to the hotel around 5:00pm. We forced ourselves Read more…

Christ In The Storm

I was reminded of something this week I already knew. Then, it was reinforced again in today’s Gospel.  On that day, as evening drew on, Jesus said to his disciples:“Let us cross to the other side.”Leaving the crowd, they took Jesus with them in the boat just as he was.And Read more…

A New Earth Filled With Righteousness

Today’s readings seem quite substantial and instructive to cure what ails us as a society. (2 Peter 3 and the Gospel of Mark 12d:13-17) Jesus is the Word of God who come to earth and took on our human flesh. He revealed in his person the full potential of humanity Read more…

Love Is Concrete: “Feed My Sheep.”

Today’s Gospel account involves the last appearance of the Risen Jesus to his disciples. We hear once again this stirring conversation between Jesus and Peter. “Do you love me?” “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” “Feed my sheep.” My friends, during the Easter season we appropriately give an Read more…

Archbishop Etienne's Welcome Mass in Seattle

Welcome to my blog, and thanks for visiting! I became the Archbishop of Seattle on September 3, 2019 after serving as Coadjutor Archbishop of Seattle from June 7, 2019. Prior to that, I served 2 and a half years as Archbishop of Anchorage, 7 years as the Bishop of Cheyenne and many more as a priest of the Archdiocese of Indianpolis.

Preaching is a priority for my episcopal ministry, and this blog is my humble effort to engage the New Evangelization and to serve you, God’s holy, faithful people! Enjoy your visit, and together, may we grow in truth and love.

Our Lady of Seattle, pray for us
