God’s Mercy In The Person Of Jesus Is The Standard Of The New Covenant

On this 5th Sunday of Lent, we hear another familiar Gospel story of the adulterous woman brought before Jesus.  In usual fashion, Jesus is drawing crowds to hear him teach.  It is in this setting of Jesus teaching the crowds that the scribes and Pharisees drag a woman caught in Read more…

For Me Life Is Christ; On The Conversion Of St. Paul

Always a favorite feast of mine, today has been a special celebration of the Conversion of St. Paul.  For more than any reason, from the very beginning of this day, I have been blessed with a sense of the nearness of Christ, and that grace has abided throughout the day.  Read more…

The Priesthood of the Baptized; Be Salt and Light to the World

Today’s readings in many ways pick up where last Sunday’s celebration of the Presentation left off.  Last week we heard Simeon proclaim that his eyes have seen the Lord’s promise of salvation … a light to reveal you to the nations.  Jesus Christ is this Light of the world, as proclaimed Read more…

Archbishop Etienne's Welcome Mass in Seattle

Welcome to my blog, and thanks for visiting! I became the Archbishop of Seattle on September 3, 2019 after serving as Coadjutor Archbishop of Seattle from June 7, 2019. Prior to that, I served 2 and a half years as Archbishop of Anchorage, 7 years as the Bishop of Cheyenne and many more as a priest of the Archdiocese of Indianpolis.

Preaching is a priority for my episcopal ministry, and this blog is my humble effort to engage the New Evangelization and to serve you, God’s holy, faithful people! Enjoy your visit, and together, may we grow in truth and love.

Our Lady of Seattle, pray for us
