In times of need, there are amazing people in the world doing wonderful things.

I made a visit to meet and thank some of those generous people at the Food Bank of St. Mary’s here in Seattle near the International District. The experience was uplifting and humbling all at the same time. They have a very well done video which you can watch by clicking on the link above.

The Food Bank has been an anchor ministry for the parish of St. Mary since the mid 1940’s. Today, between 900 – 1,500 unique clients receive essential food items each week. The Food Bank distributes about 3 million pounds of food annually.

As with every such organization, the people are the heart and soul – from the employees, to the volunteers and from those served to the many benefactors. It was a joy to meet and visit with some of them today, and to thank them for their heroic ministry and efforts. It was also enlightening to stroll the sidewalk and greet the many individuals who lined up to patiently wait their turn to pick up the food they needed.

The Food Bank of St. Mary’s is the second largest such operation of 26 that serve those in need in the city of Seattle.

Great job everyone! God bless each of you, and know through you God blesses many others!
