As the Archbishop of Seattle, I request your prayers for our city after yesterday’s shooting that took the lives of three individuals and left several others injured. You can learn more about the situation by reading this article from our Northwest Catholic Magazine.

The article also carries the message I sent this morning to our Mayor expressing our sadness and assurance of prayers.

In the midst of the many acts of violence we face day-to-day, whether in our communities or more broadly in the world, as believers we never lose hope in the faithfulness of our God. Let us remain prayerful and vigilant in our efforts to build strong communities of peace through concrete acts of charity.

I offered Mass this morning for the intentions of the many people whose lives were profoundly impacted by the shootings. I encourage each of you to find simple things to do, then place them in the hands of our loving God who takes our small acts of love and sacrifice to do great things beyond our imagining.

Let us continue to work together to build communities of peace and justice. As the parables on the Kingdom of God remind us, our witness and efforts are like leaven when imbued with God’s grace and are capable of bringing about the better world we long for and God envisions.

Peace,

Archbishop Etienne
