Today’s readings continue the call to conversion of this Advent season.
As the Prophet Zephaniah proclaims, we must confess our own ‘rebellious, polluted and tyrannical’ ways that ignore God. Now is the time to admit we no longer hear God’s voice or accept correction, and have failed to place our trust in God.
Clearly, the Lord has no patience with proud braggarts, but rather seeks the humility and faith of the two great models Advent offers us, Mary and Joseph. They were led by faith and the message of an angel. We are led by faith, but now have Jesus and the Holy Spirit as our guides and companions.
Let us turn again to the Lord, and accept his direction to ‘go out and work in the vineyard.’
