Complaining Against The LORD, Or Believing In Him

As we continue our Lenten journey, the readings today give some good material for self-examination. From the Book of Numbers we hear again of the people of Israel complaining against God and Moses. How often do we complain against God? For what reasons? In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells the Pharisees Read more…

Turn To Jesus In Faith

In the Gospel today (John 4: 43-54) a royal official comes from Capernaum to Cana to ask Jesus to heal his son, who was near death. This is our model today and every day, to bring our needs to Jesus – in faith. In these trying times, we are encouraged Read more…

Fourth Sunday of Lent: To See As God Sees – By The Light Of Christ

Today we read again from John’s Gospel, chapter 9, the story of Jesus healing the blind man. It is ultimately a story of conversion and faith. The Pharisees claim to see, and yet they are blind to the true identity of Jesus. Jesus restores sight to the man born blind, Read more…

Saints Transform Culture

We had 21 of our faith communities represented at St. James Cathedral today for the celebration of “Our Saints.”  We began at 10:00 with Eucharistic Adoration. Building The Kingdom One Disciple At A Time

Since the time of Jesus, the model of establishing and building the Church has been about relationships. Jesus called twelve, and sent them. Jesus entered into many relationships, through encounter, dialogue, healing, forgiveness and preaching the Kingdom of Heaven. Our life as disciples of Jesus is the same. We are Read more…

Archbishop Etienne's Welcome Mass in Seattle

Welcome to my blog, and thanks for visiting! I became the Archbishop of Seattle on September 3, 2019 after serving as Coadjutor Archbishop of Seattle from June 7, 2019. Prior to that, I served 2 and a half years as Archbishop of Anchorage, 7 years as the Bishop of Cheyenne and many more as a priest of the Archdiocese of Indianpolis.

Preaching is a priority for my episcopal ministry, and this blog is my humble effort to engage the New Evangelization and to serve you, God’s holy, faithful people! Enjoy your visit, and together, may we grow in truth and love.

Our Lady of Seattle, pray for us
