Reflecting the Good News of Christ

Our Lady Of Fatima, Confirmation, Graduations, And Permanent Deacons – And Mother’s Day

This is a very busy time of year for most people.  Today I wish to offer some reflections on the activities and insights of this week. Today Pope Francis celebrated the 100th Anniversary of the apparitions in Portugal of our Lady to three young children.  During Mass today, he canonized Read more

Members of Christ – Members Of Broader Church

Even though I’m still learning my way as the new Archbishop of Anchorage, I’m no stranger to the annual appeals that support the work of the broader Church.  Our One Bread One Body 2017 Annual Catholic Appeal gives us the opportunity to participate in the life of the Church beyond the parish. I Read more

Parish Visit & Confirmations at St. Francis Xavier – Valdez

Saturday morning I was up early to grab a cup of coffee, say some prayers, and make it to the airport for a 7:00 am flight to Valdez.  The weather forecast for the weekend was not promising – but in reality, Saturday was absolutely beautiful!  And so was the visit Read more

Easter Octave Continues: Paradise Lost – Paradise Restored – By A Gardener

Today’s Mass offers us the resurrection account from John’s Gospel (20:11-18).  This account evokes a persistence on the part of the Magdalene to remain at the tomb.  She had visited earlier and found it empty, and ran to tell Simon Peter.  She obviously returned, and remained, even after Peter and Read more

Easter Sunday Mass At Covenant House, Alaska; Anchorage

“SWIECONKA”: A Treasured Polish Custom – Blessing Easter Baskets of Easter Food

He Is Risen! Let Us Run With Peter & The Beloved Disciple In Search Of The Risen Christ

Happy Easter! On this Easter Sunday the Church hears the message proclaimed to Peter and the Beloved Disciple, “They have taken the Lord from the tomb, and we do not know where they put him.” (John 20:2) Most of us after living for a while know the experience of grief, Read more

Photos From Good Friday Service At Holy Family Cathedral, 2017

A very fitting celebration of the Lord’s Passion and Veneration of the Holy Cross at our Cathedral last night.  Most impressive was the Dominican tradition of chanting the Passion and the display of the Cross for veneration on the steps of the sanctuary.  This certainly added time to the service, Read more

Archbishop Etienne's Welcome Mass in Seattle

Welcome to my blog, and thanks for visiting! I became the Archbishop of Seattle on September 3, 2019 after serving as Coadjutor Archbishop of Seattle from June 7, 2019. Prior to that, I served 2 and a half years as Archbishop of Anchorage, 7 years as the Bishop of Cheyenne and many more as a priest of the Archdiocese of Indianpolis.

Preaching is a priority for my episcopal ministry, and this blog is my humble effort to engage the New Evangelization and to serve you, God’s holy, faithful people! Enjoy your visit, and together, may we grow in truth and love.

Our Lady of Seattle, pray for us
