St. Catherine, Pray For Us!

There are very few saints from our tradition that knew and loved the Lord, Jesus as St. Catherine. I am so grateful to have discovered her as she has helped me to love the same Lord, and to know and love and serve his Church. St. Catherine found so much Read more…

St. Mark, Evangelist: Writing And Witness Of Life

We celebrate today the Feast of St. Mark, Evangelist. I cannot help but think that Mark lived as a great witness to Christ before, or at least, while he was writing his Gospel. Once again in this Easter season we hear the great commission of Jesus: Go into the whole Read more…

Proper Understanding Of God: From Above, With Us Here

Jesus continues to teach Nicodemus about his true origins from God above. “The one who comes from above is above all. The one who is of the earth is earthly and speaks of earthly things.” (John 3: 31) We need a balanced ‘theology’ or understanding of God. God is indeed Read more…

The Proclamation Continues: God So Loved The World …

Being Born From Above: Grace Builds Upon Nature

Jesus speaks with Nicodemus in today’s Gospel (John 3:1-8), about the necessity to be “born from above” in order to see the Kingdom of God. We are curious as was Nicodemus as to how we can experience such a ‘rebirth.’ The answer lies in Jesus Christ, not only his teaching, Read more…

Christ Risen Lives In And Through The Church Today

This Divine Mercy Sunday concludes the Octave of Easter. The Risen Jesus lives! Do not persist in your unbelief, but believe that you may have life. We like St. Thomas, who was not present the first time the Risen Lord appeared to the apostles, have not seen the Risen Lord, Read more…

Welcome!

Archbishop Etienne's Welcome Mass in Seattle

Welcome to my blog, and thanks for visiting! I became the Archbishop of Seattle on September 3, 2019 after serving as Coadjutor Archbishop of Seattle from June 7, 2019. Prior to that, I served 2 and a half years as Archbishop of Anchorage, 7 years as the Bishop of Cheyenne and many more as a priest of the Archdiocese of Indianpolis.

Preaching is a priority for my episcopal ministry, and this blog is my humble effort to engage the New Evangelization and to serve you, God’s holy, faithful people! Enjoy your visit, and together, may we grow in truth and love.

Our Lady of Seattle, pray for us
